10 on 10: The Heart of Australia

There are those people you meet who, in almost an instant, become family.   In Australia, I have a few of those friends who will forever live in my heart, and my trip here for two and a half weeks, is to be with them.  Of course, most of my travels are around my great love, the ocean, so I’m grateful that all those I know in Oz, share that love with me.

Though I had met most of my Australian friends while living in L.A.  through my world of music, this circle of friends has grown substantially through moves, marriages, and my many visits to this beautiful Country.

For the past week, I’ve been in Brisbane and surrounding beaches with my soul sister, Cath, spending time with her daughter and husband, and a few scattered friends who I’ve met through the years.

Next week I’ll be further South — South of Sydney, in fact,  with my friends who are deeply entrenched in music.  I consider them the modern-day Bohemian version of the Von Trapps.

Each time I’m here my heart expands and  my love for the beauty of Oz and my circle of friends grows.

These are a few snaps from my first week here.  I always love the towns with their Aboriginal names —  Mooloolaba, Narrawallee, Ulladulla, etc..  – all places I’ve visited or will be visiting in the next week here.

I so love Australia — for it’s people, it’s beauty, it’s laid-back attitude, and my chosen family here.  Part of that love, I suppose, comes from the fact that it is also in my blood.  I find it so exciting and telling that my great, great Grandmother was Australian — an Opera singer in Sydney!
